DMR 401 Cucumber
DMR 401 Cucumber
Cucumis sativus
The next generation of downy mildew resistant (DMR) cucumbers from Michael Mazourek's plant breeding program at Cornell University. These deep green field slicers are rather productive, making cucumbers 7-8" in size. The plant leaves will resist Downy Mildew pressure at levels that kill other standard field cucumber plants - all while continuing to pump out fruit. Which makes 401 the ideal cucumber to plant mid-season when the Downy Mildew is coming on. It was the clear winner in Cornell's trials in 2017. What it lacks in a name, it makes up in cucumbers it produces! 65 days to maturity.
In the kitchen
Toss cucumber slices, along with thinly sliced red onion (Rossa di Milano is great for this) in olive oil, apple cider vinegar, salt and a pinch of sugar. Let the mixture marinate for 10-15 minutes before serving. Add finely chopped herbs if you like, or even serve with a yogurt based creamy dressing. Simple, fast and refreshing.
