Tropaeolum majus
A nasturtium mix of the traditional oranges and yellows along with lovely bicoloured petals for an added pop of colour. Plants want to climb and benefit from a trellis or fence for support. Can be grown in the garden and in a container. The whole of the flowers and the foliage are edible and are often seen dressed on top of salads for added visual appeal and peppery bursts of flavour. 60 days to maturity.
In the kitchen
Keep an eye out for plants forming seeds, and harvest the immature green ones and pickle them with some vinegar, sugar and a bay leaf. Makes for a pretty great caper substitute in our climate!
